For the next arc in “Uncanny X-Force,” Marvel will be releasing “Final Execution,” which it promises to be a mega arc and comparable to “Dark Angel.”

“Rick [Remender] and I and editor Nick Lowe have been working on it for months,” said artist Mike McKone.

Remender, the writer for the arc, said he wanted to make it accessible to new readers, but it would still have a lot to do with past issues. “This is the story that deals with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants,” he said. “They are the baddest . . . bad . . . I’m trying not to cuss.” Read More...

Starting with Deadpool #50, writer Daniel Way kicked off his biggest arc yet, DEAD, which finds the Merc With a Mouth to kick the bucket any way he can. And you would think with a title like that, Deadpool wouldn't be making it out alive... And you may be right. All we know is that we got a peek at issue #55, and there may - or may not - be an all new Deadpool under the mask. To find out more, we chatted with a very mysterious Way over e-mail. Oh, and scroll down after the interview for a look at issue #55, and the new/old Deadpool:

MTV Geek: Okay, Daniel, this arc is coming out of Deadpool: DEAD, which seems to imply that… Deadpool is NOT dead? OR IS HE??? You’re messing with my mind here, man.

Daniel Way: All I can say is that Wade Wilson, AKA Deadpool left the possibility of a “normal” death behind a very, very long time ago.

Geek: It looks like maybe we’re getting a new Deadpool under the mask; or is it the old Deadpool, with a new look? Feel free to spoil the news here.

DW: No “maybes” about it—this IS a new Deadpool.

Geek: Heck, I’ll just ask, as the cover seems to imply this anyway… The “cure” for Deadpool’s healing factor, that he’s currently searching for as of issue fifty, made Evil Deadpool handsome again, before he died. Is it possible that Deadpool may have misinterpreted exactly what that “cure” does, and what we’re seeing from #55 forward is the new, gorgeous on the outside Wade Wilson?

Marvel’s been releasing a lot of interesting news lately on titles we can expect this coming May, and the latest announcement concerns an addition to the creative team of Ultimate Comics: Ultimates.

Starting with issue #10, Sam Humphries (Our Love Is Real) will be co-writing with Jonathan Hickman. The art will be provided by Luke Ross, and the new issues promise to vault off into its reimagined world.

“It’s been a little overwhelming,” Humphries said about his new writing gig, but added that it was also exciting. He said in the Ultimate Universe, you get to take the big guys and have leeway to throw them around, specifically naming off such characters as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Nick Fury. It’s hard being around angry people. But for the Hulk, anger can keep him alive, especially in his new five-issue arc “Stay Angry!” which will debut in May.

The arc is being written by Jason Aaron and will have several different artists, though it will start with Steve Dillon. Not all of the artists’ names have been announced yet.

Aaron said he’s having a lot of fun with this arc and noted how it swings back and forth from very dark and serious to very light and funny. “I like swinging from one extreme to the other,” he said. Read More...

In a bit of news unfortunately timed with the upcoming release of the new Ghost Rider movie, it seems that ol' flame-head's creator, Gary Friedrich, has been given a $17,000 "bill" by Marvel Entertainment's lawyers. The said reason? Selling unauthorized prints featuring Ghost Rider at comic book conventions.

Had Friedrich been actually making big bank over these prints -- and his claim to be the creator of Ghost Rider -- I could understand, and even approve of, Marvel's position here. It would be very easy for someone to simply draw famous characters like Batman and Spider-Man, reproduce those images, and make a tidy business: "Batman Art Sold Here." They could even mix it up and have paintings where Batman fights Spider-Man; I'd buy those.

But Gary Friedrich is a 68-year-old man who, according to reports, is destitute and not in the greatest of health. He did not make a fortune selling those prints, or going to comic book conventions proclaiming to be the creator of Ghost Rider. Friedrich was doing the bare minimum in order to survive. And while I seriously doubt he will be thrown in jail for not paying the 17 grand out, he could spend his later years facing tons and tons of collection notices and calls -- which is really demoralizing. Sure we're pretty excited about Marvel's upcoming Avengers vs. X-Men mega-series, but we're EVEN MORE excited about the lone spin-off title, Versus. In case you didn't read our earlier report about the series, it boils down to this: you know all that boring dialogue and exposition important to crossover events, while you get one panel of heros pummeling each other in the background? Versus is all heros pummeling each other. Read More...
