'Man Of Steel': Testing The Mettle of Mattel's Movie Masters Superman Figure

On June 14th, Warner Bros' "Man of Steel" arrives in theaters with the power of an exploding planet (or a non-exploding planet, as rumors would lead us to believe) and as much as I enjoy movies, the accompanying toy lines can really influence the line between love and obsession I build for a franchise. "Star Wars", "Jurassic Park", "Batman Returns", and others would not be held nearly as dear to my heart if not for the childhood memories I gained from playing with the action figures, and vehicles, based on the characters I watched on the big screen. Today, I've matured enough (barely) to enjoy a movie for what it is-- but, that doesn't mean I also can't appreciate a well-made licensed toy. Mattel has released the first wave of collector-aimed "Man of Steel" Movie Masters and today I'm taking a closer look at Superman!

Toy Fair Exclusive: 'Man of Steel' Villain Faora Revealed In Movie Masters Figure

Just in time for Toy Fair, MTV Geek has an intriguing reveal from Mattel's "Man of Steel" Movie Masters collection: General Zod's companion Faora!

Earlier, we showed you the other figures in the "Man of Steel" line. Now we see the lovely Faora, played by Antje Traue ("Pandorum")  in the Superman film.

This is our first full-on look at the baddie who's certain to make Superman's life a living hell along with Michael Shannon's Zod in Zack Snyder's upcoming film. Our pals over at MTV Splash Page have done some speculating about whether we may have caught of glimpse of Faora in that very awesome trailer from a few months back.

DC And Mattel Debuts 'Darker' She-Ra: 'We're Not Playing Things Safe'

She-Ra "reimagined" by artist Drew Edward Johnson: "I...divided her face down the middle with the panel borders to show her split nature."

Everybody knows She-Ra as the female counterpart to beloved 1980s icon He-Man -- but according to DC Comics writer Mike Costa, you don't really know She-Ra. The sword-wielding heroine's origin is headed for a "dramatic retelling"  in a self-named digital one-shot, according to CNN.

Some might be surprised to learn that She-Ra -- a.k.a. Princess Adora -- started out as basically an agent/assassin for the evil Hordak. It's those darker early years of the character's life that the comic will focus on. Read More...

Review: Dragon Blaster Skeletor Brings His Own Brand Of Insanity To Mattel's Masters Of The Universe Classics

I'll be the first to admit that the 1980's animated "He-Man & the Masters of the Universe" veered into the realm of camp craziness more often than not and the vintage toy line upped the ante at every turn! As more and more action figures were released and sold, the need for variations on He-man and Skeletor continued to grow and one fateful day Dragon Blaster Skeletor was born unto this Earth in a fusing of water-spraying plastic unlike anything that came before! His bright colors and self-injurious concept (Having a dragon chained to your back is just simply a bad idea!) quickly gained favor with my young heart and he was immediately my go-to Skeletor during my childhood years. Now, Mattel has released an updated version in their Matty Collector-exclusive Masters of the Universe Classics line and I've finally found the time to properly review the one they sent. NYCC 2012: Mattel's Surefire Toy Marketing Strategy? Batman

The Mattel booth is once again stocked with piles of plastic awesome at New York Comic Con 2012, and more than a few glass shelves have been taken over by Batman-- plus a few of his allies and members of his rogues gallery. The variant suit-heavy Batman line is looking to continue strong with additions like Bane, the Joker (who has been hitting the gym), and a number of Batman figures with all manner of weapons attached. The Batman Unlimited line was also present for the first time since their announcement with the highlight for me being the "The Dark Knight Returns" version of Bruce that is compatible with Mattel's other collector-oriented line, Masters of the Universe Classics.
