Toy Fair 2012: Mezco Toyz Scares Up the Universal Monsters

As we roll ever closer to Halloween (Hey, it's only 5 months away!), it seems that the Universal Monsters have been scaring up lots of new action figures, and in a variety of scales, based on their classic likenesses. While a couple of companies have tossed their hat into the monster-making ring, Mezco Toyz has decided to bring out something so huge it has its own system of measurement: Monster Scale! That's right, Mezco has once again resurrected Frankenstein's Monster, (Check out their smaller version here.)and this time he clocks in at 18 inches tall! We first saw this guy filling up plenty of a display case in the Mezco booth during Toy Fair 2012, and every time we see new photos of him, we're reminded of how we can't wait to have that stylized corpse on our shelf-- and that we're gonna have to make a bigger shelf!

While the villagers fearfully ready their pitchforks and torches, read on to find out all the info on this stylized take on the patchwork abomination!

Toy Fair 2012: Mezco Toyz Scares Up The Universal Monsters

The Universal Monsters, and the films they terrorized, are an integral component to American film history and we are glad to see the ol' Gang of Horrors getting their due with a number of action figure and toy releases. While Diamond Select Toys have been bringing out Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, and a number of others in their Select-scale, our pals over at Mezco Toyz are planning a full barrage of monsters in all styles and sizes! We gazed at the entire lineup during Toy Fair 2012, and now we're that much closer to owning them with the latest announcement that the 9" Frankenstein will be the first release! The styling on these hearkens back to Mezco's earlier lines like Gangsters Inc., Reservoir Dogs, and the stylized Tony Montana from "Scarface" with realistic texturing placed over more exaggerated sculpts. We can't wait to have this re-animated monster on our shelves in time for Halloween!

Read on for all the info straight from Mezco Toyz, along with a shot of the variant version of Frankenstein's Monster!

Back in 1962, artist Wallace Wood reported humanity's downfall at the hands of our Martian overlord through Topps trading card series, effectively titled: Mars Attacks. While we were obviously able to take the fight back to those green-suited bastards and send them packing back to the red planet, now Mezco Toyz is helping to once again spearhead their invasion of our world! Strangely enough, we found this out during Toy Fair 2012 rather than a major news network. Way to report the facts, "journalists"!

Join us as we take a look at not one, but 3 different scales our conquerors will be arriving in!

We're currently snatching up any and all Bat-related merchandise due, in large part, to our addictions to Batman: Arkham City and DC Comics' Batman line from their New 52. While we have lots of intricately detailed and/or super articulated versions of the Dark Knight and his Bat-Family, our collection was lacking a little something-- and we think we've found it in the guise of Mezco Toyz' Batman Mini Mez-Itz w/ Batmobile set!
