Following their partnership with action Figure Xpress at SDCC 2012, Diamond Select Toys is once again partnering up to release ThunderCats and Alpha Flight Minimate sets at New York Comic-Con 2012! This time, the evil forces of Thundera have made their presence felt as Slithe, Jackalman, Monkian, and Vultureman can now join the previously released Mumm-Ra in the fight against the ThunderCats. Also on tap is another batch of Alpha Flight members from the often-canceled Marvel comic book. This set includes Sasquatch, Shaman, Snowbird, and Aurora, so the Canadian super team is almost completely filled out. They must feel so sad to have lost Wolverine all those years ago.

It's writer Garth Ennis' big news for New York Comic Con, and it got broken early: the prolific writer will be launching Dynamite's new crime line with "Red Team." In the comic, a group of elite New York Police Officers decide to murder a suspect...and then things get way worse. To find out more, we chatted with Ennis' about the title, as well as the launch of the line:

Mark Waid is no stranger to relaunches. From representing the newest take on Daredevil in decades, to recent runs on The Rocketeer and Steed & Peel, Waid has put his imprint on some of the greatest characters in the comic book medium. Now, he's taking on another icon, as he tells what might be the final tale of the Green Hornet for Dynamite. We'll find out more this week at New York Comic Con, but in advance of the official announcement we chatted with Waid about his take on Britt Reid, Kato, and even the Black Beauty:

MTV Geek: Mark, between Green Hornet, Steed & Peel, and Rocketeer, I feel like you’re turning into “The Olde Timey Reboot” Guy… Are we going to see you tackling The Yellow Kid next?

Mark Waid: Annnnd there goes my career, ladies and gentlemen! It's been a good year, thanks for that! See ya! If anyone needs me, I'll be at the Springfield Retirement Castle watching my afternoon stories on the black-and-white Philco. Read More...

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: the best part of a big convention like New York Comic Con is the nooks and crannies, the panels and events that are seldom attended, but provide a look at a life beyond your big comic book announcements and TV clip reels. Here’s your schedule for the weirdest, most interesting panels at NYCC 2012:

New York Comic Con isn’t just about the panels, the signings, and the exclusives… It’s also about the parties and events outside of the Javits Center. And while there may not be a Gaslamp district right outside like in San Diego, you’ve only got all of New York to rage in, all night long. Here’s a rundown of some of the big events not cooped up in the Convention Hall:

MTV Geek Live's Steven Smith smack-dab in the Whedonverse...

By Steven Smith

We know I’m a big Batman fan, if you’re a fan of this column (thank you)...then you know the story about how Adam West as Batman was my first memory as child. So, with this in mind you can imagine the dance I’ve been doing when I found out Adam West was going to be at New York Comic Con AND – wait for it – I might be doing a sit down interview with his Adamajesty. The dance involves pierouettes and several kick turns if you want to be specific. And you do want to be specific. The funny thing is I met Mr. West before. Many, many moons ago I tested for a Fox sitcom pilot out in Los Angeles. I was a disheveled long-hair going in for the role of a disheveled long hair and testing for the part of eccentric town mayor was one Adam West. Read More...

Next week marks the kick-off of a convention so big, some pros – and fans – have taken to calling it “San Diego 2.” That’s right, it’s New York Comic-Con 2012, and by all indications, the crowds should be even more massive than the last, record breaking year. To help you get through the crush, we’ve put together a list of THE must see panels, to help you schedule your whole weekend. Oh, and by the way… Your weekend starts on Thursday:

Mini-figures and G.I. Joes are two types of toys that I'm a complete sucker for. Now, Hasbro has decided (according to this teaser poster they sent my way) to take all my money away by combining their G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero characters with the miniscule cuteness of their Kreons. Thanks a lot, you money-hungry toy barons! Anyway, during New York Comic-Con 2012, Hasbro will not have the booth presence that everyone has grown accustomed to and will instead be hosting a special press event on October 10th. Lots of late 2012 and 2013 toys will be on display, and I'll be there snapping photos and plotting an elaborate scheme to snag all of their wares. Until then, read on for a look at the teaser poster for the upcoming G.I. Joe Kreo sets!

New York Comic Con is starting to look like New York Manga Con, and the latest announcement of a visting manga-ka came last Thursday: GEN Manga, the digital manga magazine, is bringing Nagumo to NYCC.

I reviewed the first five issues of "GEN" a while back, but if you didn't happen to pick up issue 8, you might not be familiar with Nagumo. "GEN" published his short manga "Let's Eat Ramen" in that issue, and as far as I can tell, that is the only Nagumo manga available (legitimately) in English. He has had two series in Houbunsha's "Manga Time Kirara Carat," a seinen manga magazine devoted mostly to 4-koma; to give you a flavor of their style, Yen Press has published a number of their other manga, including "Sunshine Sketch," "K-ON!," and "S.S. Astro."

While con season is wrapping up, one of the biggest and best is still on the way: New York Comic-Con! As with the other shows I frequent for MTV Geek, the con-exclusive toys are always what I get most excited about, and DC Collectibles has just released images and info on two of their offerings for the show! The Green Lantern two-pack continues the very cool, and highly articulated 3 3/4" line, with the other figure being the Aardman-style Batman based on the incredible DC Nation shorts. Both of these will only be available to New York Comic-Con attendees and MTV Geek is bringing you the first looks!

Robert Kirkman and his Image imprint Skybound Entertainment just announced their plans for this year's New York Comic-Con, taking place on Oct 10-14. "The Walking Dead" creator and pretty much reigning king of comics is unleashing a couple of sweet exclusive hardcovers for both his trusty ol' "Dead" and "Thief of Thieves"--his colaboration with "Morning Glories" writer Nick Spencer.

The biggest news out of an otherwise gaming-light New York Comic Con this year was when Steve Jackson Games announced their agreement to license the recent hit Image Comics book, Skullkickers. Naturally, we had to catch up with company COO Phil Reed, who was in attendance, to get his thoughts. Check out our video highlights below to find out what's new with Steve Jackson Games.
