Not so fast, Mr. Stormtrooper! Do you have a wristband for that blaster?

Hey, is this San Diego Comic-Con or the TSA? While conventioneers this year won't have to go through a metal detector, they will be subject to "weapon" inspections and random badge checks. And don't forget to bring your I.D.!

According to NBC San Diego, badge security will be increased this year, with random checks occurring throughout the weekend to cut down on counterfeits. David Glanzer, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for SDCC 2012, explained the tougher security measures:

"Security has been very, very good about seeing counterfeit badges but at the end of the event, you may 10 or 15 badges with one person’s name used multiple times..."

But the new guidelines for cosplay weaponry on the con floor are somewhat more intense. For starters, if you intend to bring such a prop into the convention center, you'll need to get a wristband from security. There will be a "Weapons Check Desk" in Lobby E, and will have to confirm to state and federal law. Read More...

Just as we were finalizing our Top Ten Coolest SDCC-Exclusive Action Figures List, this shows up as inconveniently as a group of Walkers when your just trying to mind your own business and take a leak out behind Hershel's barn! McFarlane Toys has produced a run of con-exclusive Michonne figures, based on Image Comics' The Walking Dead comic series, that will only be available at Robert Kirkman's Skybound booth during the big show. For fans who already own the comic series-version, this is pretty much the same deal-- with a ton of added blood and a sweet-ass poncho! Not only that, but the packaging features brand new art by series mainstay Charlie Adlard. Looks like our Michonne will be safe from the coming invasion--safe inside her plastic prison! Read More...

Gentle Giant Ltd. recently showed off some exclusives that would be available only during the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con International-- but we didn't show them to you. No sir (or ma'am), we waited, because we had the sneaking suspicion they were holding something back, and were they ever! Three more items were revealed over the weekend to Gentle Giant's Premier Guild Members (which you need to be in order to pre-order the exclusives), so today we're bringing you coverage on the entire lot of incredibly sculpted goodness! Star Wars, Marvel, Mars Attacks, and even Pan's Labyrinth are represented, so there's something for almost anyone's taste in collectibles.

At the San Diego Comic-Con International 2012, it looks like Kotobukiya has a theme for their exclusives with all four being variants of their insanely popular Bishoujo line of statues. Not only that, but they're spreading the love around the con with the gray costumed Black Widow being distributed by Shop AFX! So, that means standing in two long lines, but for four incredible statues. Not bad. Well, it IS-- but that's sadly just the way of SDCC. Read on for info on Black Widow, X-23, Storm, and Arisa along with plenty of photos from Kotobukiya!

With our addiction love video games and action figures being put to the test, we'll probably be living on the street thanks to blowing all our hard-earned rent money at the show for things like these Black and White Play Arts Kai figures from Square Enix' Batman: Arkham Asylum line. "Groovy." That's the sentiment we had upon seeing the latest, and greatest, SDCC 2012 premiere on the NECA website: Hero From the Sky Ash! Yes, they're bringing Ash to SDCC as a con-exclusive action figure that embodies the classic cinematic masterpiece that that is the ending to Evil Dead II. While the photos of the prototype don't show it, the figure is listed as having multiple articulation points in the legs like NECA's previous Ash figures.

It's beginning to feel a lot like Geek Christmas... And even if the regular Holiday doesn't arrive for another six months, you can officially break out your Doctor Who themed sentient pine trees, because San Diego Comic Con is fast approaching. And with CCI comes toys, knick-knacks, and exclusives, including these tree ornaments from Hallmark.

Spotlighting three very different geek properties - Batman, Battlestar Galactica, and Star Wars - they'll nonetheless brighten up your tree... Or at least days at Comic-Con. The ornaments are only available at the Hallmark booth at CCI from July 11-15, 2012 in limited quantities. Here's the official breakdown, and a larger look at the Keepsake Ornaments: Read More...

If you're like us - and we think you are, give that you ended up at this site - you love all the non-stop entertainment at San Diego Comic-Con, but could also use a break... An alternative, if you will. Last year, Tr!ckster, an art salon that provided an indie comic equivalent to SDCC opened across the street from the Convention Center. Turns out, that was such a popular idea that the creator-owned showcase store will be back for a second incarnation.

...Though granted, it's called Tr!ck2ter, which gives us hot flash sweat reminders of the Fast and the Furious series. If that naming continues, we imagine a few years down the road, it'll be called T'!©k2t3r. But we digress. Read More...

During last year's SDCC, Entertainment Earth had the prototypes for Bif Bang Pow!'s 3 3/4" "The Venture Bros." figures on display for all the drooling public to see. While a pre-order system was put into play in order to see if producing the figures would be possible, fans have been unsure as to the fate of Doc Venture and his cadre of heroic (although sometimes idiotic) warriors. Well, it looks like your G.I. Joes and other 3 3/4" figures have a new mercenary to battle with and/or fear in the guise of this SDCC 2012 Exclusive Brock Samson figure! Covered in the blood of his enemies, Brock also comes packaged with a knife-- cause that's all he'll need in a gunfight!

Dr. Henry Pym's screw-ups far outweigh his successes, what with that whole spousal abuse rep, and by creating the Ultron A.I. which is pretty much on a course for one day ruling the entire planet. However, there's no denying that Pym Particles are pretty cool and using them for growing to enormous sizes has advantages, and now NECA and WizKids are showing how useful that can truly be-- in the realm of Heroclix, at least! Yep, hot on the heels of the Marvel Galactic Guardians set of Heroclix, comes Chaos War with the advance SDCC-Exclusive Colossal Heroclix figure being none other than Henry Pym a.k.a. Giant-Man!

Looking at that painting, we think that Godzilla trampling the San Diego Convention Center, while looking awesome, would considerably wipe out some of the best and brightest creators of comics, toys, and film. On the other hand, his fiery breath would effectively nullify the stench that permeates the con floor by day 2 of SDCC from the sweat-filled costumes and overly-packed bodies. We guess there really is a silver lining to every catastrophic situation! This year, you can play out the scenario for yourself on the sidewalk, in the convention center, or even in your hotel's bath tub (creepy!) thanks to Bandai Japan's San Diego Comic-Con exclusive S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla in his fiery orange "Comic-Con Explosion" color scheme! This Godzilla uses the same sculpt as their previous S.H. MonsterArts figure, but has been molded in faded, semi-translucent plastic. While this version of the destroyer/protector of Tokyo stands roughly 6 inches tall, he is almost 15 inches long from head to tail!

I was lucky enough at Comic-Con to meet Ernie Cline, the fantastic screenwriter of the hilarious movie Fanboys!! If you are as much a Star Wars fan as I am, you'll love every second of this movie and it has a cameo with Carrie Fisher!!! How can you go wrong? And now Ernie has his first novel coming out, Ready Player One. I just finished the book last week and I was hooked from the first page to the last, no joke. It is a suspenseful cyberspace roller coaster read perfect for geeks!! Check out the New York Times review of his book too!

Here's the book synopsis via Deadline:

A teenager named Wade Watts escapes his bleak surrounds by logging into Oasis, a globally networked virtual utopia where users lead idyllic alternate lives. When the game’s eccentric billionaire creator dies, he offers up his fortune as the prize in an elaborate treasure hunt. Watts is pitted against powerful corporate foes and ruthless competitors who’ll do anything, in the Oasis and real world, to reach the treasure first.

I interviewed Ernie about his new book, Star Wars, video games and his DeLorean!

LW: Ok first off, I LOVE the movie Fanboys! It is so damn funny! How were you able to get your script from your desk all the way to Hollywood?

EC: I originally intended for Fanboys to be an ultra-low-budget indie film that I planned to shoot here in Austin. I wrote a part in the script for Harry Knowles to play himself, then gave him the script to see if he'd agree to be in it. Harry really loved my script and posted a glowing review of it on his website, which is read by everyone who works in Hollywood. Harry's review got the attention of a young producer who tracked me down and optioned the script. It took several more years after that, but eventually the movie was bought and produced by the Weinstein Company. It was a long, strange journey.

So one of the highlights I'd knew I'd be experiencing at Comic-Con, besides my lucky run in with Mark Hamill, was the chance to interview the Mythbusters crew - Kari Byron, Tory Belleci and my good friend from our old Lucasfilm days together Grant Imahara. While most of my crazy cohorts were out finding the hippest geek parties, I curled up in my hotel room, catching up on as many Mythbusters shows and I could, preparing my questions. I had interviewed celebrities before, but something about these guys made me nervous! Why God why???

Tory, Kari, Grant and I got to spend a lovely Saturday morning together discussing all things Mythbusters! These guys are so easy going and so much fun to hang with! We talked about Star Wars, vomit, ear wax candles, RPG's (Not role playing games!), sky diving and Grant's current bachelor status! We even talked about Craig Ferguson's crush on the entire team and poor Geoff Peterson needing some arm repairs...

Check out their awesome interview here!
