We'll get to that title and photo in a second, but first it was time for DC Comics to face the crowd at San Diego Comic-Con for one of the most controversial comic books of the year, Before Watchmen. With fans having read most of the series first issues by now, would they be elated? Conflicted? Ask long meandering questions that are more statements than actual questions? There to take on the potential abuse were DC head honcho Dan Didio, writers Len Wein and J. Michael Straczynski, writer/artists Amanda Conner and Darwyn Cooke, and Editors Mark Chiarello and Will Daniels. Read More...

The focus was squarely on animation at this year's Marvel TV panel, with news about Hulk Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Avengers, and Ultimate Spider-Man. Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel TV, kicked off the panel announcing that the Marvel AR App would unlock some special features if you use it on the Ultimate Spider-Man buttons given out at the door. Then, he warned everybody that there are sixteen SHIELD agents scattered throughout the room who were going to confiscate any phones or cameras that recorded the special footage shown during the panel.

Business out of the way, Loeb noted that in January, Disney opened up an animation studio for Marvel in Burbank - leading into a one of the Marvel Mash-Ups from the Marvel Universe block on Disney XD. That over, he teased that there should be some “marvelous” announcements at the Phineas and Ferb panel tomorrow at SDCC. Read More...

Writer Nathan Edmondson has built a name for himself in the past few years with critically acclaimed series like Who Is Jake Ellis, and The Activity. Now, as announced at SDCC 2012, he's making a leap to superheroes with a four issue Ultimate Comics Iron Man miniseries, beginning in October. In it, Iron Man tackles a brand new take on villain The Mandarin, as well as something very familiar to IM fans: this story is titled "Demon In The Armor." Kevin Eastman may be best known for Teenage Mutant ninja Turtles, but he's been writing and drawing other comics for years. The latest, big news item just announced at IDW's panel at SDCC 2012? LOST ANGELES, a six issue mini-series developed with Simon Bisley about a post-apocalyptic LA:

MTV Geek: We’ve read the blurb, but what’s the idea of Lost Angeles - and where did it come from?

Kevin Eastman: It started several years ago, in a brain-storming session with me and Simon Bisley--massive sessions of sharing likes and inspirations, creative mind melts, and kicking around idea's of really cool stuff we LOVE to draw! I guess that was the start--but I think when I came up with the title, Lost Angeles, I thought; "Man, there is really something to dig into here..." and after a trademark search I saw it was free and clear and I grabbed it before someone else did! Over a year or so of discussion, we developed the story and concept, banged out a bunch of character designs and kind of set it aside a bit to do other stuff--and that is when I showed it to Joe--who promply fiddled about--and came back with some very cool suggestions. Joe and I beat out a treatment, a screenplay, and now I'll adapt that with Tom and Bobby into the series! Read More...

Let me tell you a little story about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. When these pizza loving dudes were first introduced, they were written by a guy named Peter Laird, and drawn by Kevin Eastman. Then, the two split, and Eastman left the sewers forever... Or so we thought. Cut to years later, and Eastman returned to TMNT, but on writing duties this time. Eastman did panel breakdowns for the issues, but no art from the Turtle's master... Until now. As revealed at IDW's SDCC 2012 panel, we can now EXCLUSIVELY reveal that with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Annual #1, Eastman will not only write, but also draw a full, extra-sized turtle story for the first time in decades: Read More...
