sherlock-panel

By Amber Lena

"Sherlock" is at San Diego Comic Con for the first time ever, and the fans have turned out en masse. Show creators (and destroyers of your feelings), Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, were joined by producer Sue Vertue in a panel moderated by James Hibberd. As one of the most highly-anticipated panels of Comic-Con, we expected nothing less than sheer madness. We are happy to say that we were not disappointed.

Walking Dead

Where's Wallace? That's not the important question today. The real question is: what about Bob?

We're not talking about the Bill Murray classic, either. Instead, we're looking at "The Wire" star Lawrence Gillard Jr., who has a brand-new role on a major TV series in the form of "The Walking Dead." Gillard plays former army medic Bob Stookey, a minor character during Robert Kirkman's Woodbury arc in the comics, and a major player in the "Walking Dead" prose novels written by Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga. Expect a different version of Bob when he appears in season four.

Transformers Construct-Bot Breakfast Banner

by Karen Yossman

Don’t try and tackle a Transformer before breakfast. Even if it’s only 10 inches high.

Hasbro previewed its new line of Transformers Construct-Bots at San Diego Comic-Con this morning, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the franchise next year. Torn between a table laden with breakfast and a table laden with Transformers Construct-Bot pieces, I over-enthusiastically found myself trying to navigate ball joints at 8am before I’d even had my first cup of coffee. Error. The sets may be aimed at 6 years and up but I found myself struggling to clip poor Ironhide’s feet onto his legs, eventually leaving him to hobble as I abandoned construction for croissants.

I've heard tales of a time when Preview Night at San Diego Comic-Con was little more than an industry party, a chance for professionals and exhibitors to take a collective deep breath before the madness of the convention really set in.  But nowadays, that way of things is nothing but a distant memory, a bedtime story for young impressionable nerds.  While it is still true that the three hours of Preview Night are less crowded than the madness to come, it's still a madhouse.  (And unlike 'preview nights' in the theater, the show can't stop if there's a problem – this is it, the big stage, everyone's watching, and the reviewers are out and ready to strike if they see anything amiss.)

"Game of Thrones" has its eye on a "Doctor Who" and "Sherlock" favorite for a new, mysterious role: Mark Gattis is aboard for HBO's upcoming fourth season. But the network is keeping quiet on who he's playing. The "Thrones" San Diego Comic-Con panel takes place on Friday, so expect some official information then. For now, all we can do is play the guessing game — and that's exactly what we're going to do.

Read on for some of our theories about who Gattis is playing on "Thrones," based on what we know of the "Song of Ice and Fire" novels. Be warned, there are some SPOILERS from the books are ahead.
