There are no iPhones in the zombie apocalypse. The closest experience there is to a friend request is driving from the prison to Woodbury and receiving a gun in the face as a greeting.

The super team of world builder Max Brooks ("World War Z"), artist Shane Davis ("Superman: Earth One"), and master comics writer Mark Waid ("Kingdom Come," "Superman: Birthright") are back at San Diego Comic-Con, revealing some of the final details of their supernatural action comic, "Shadow Walk," out this November from Legendary Entertainment (the comics arm of "Pacific Rim" studio Legendary Pictures). The story asks what if the Valley of the Shadow of Death was a physical place, one where something dangerous might be emerging. Into this plot, Waid, Brooks, and Davis toss in troubled hero John Raines, a soldier falsely accused of killing his own squad and now tasked with confronting very real demons.

With Legendary debuting the cover of the book today exclusively through MTV Geek, we thought we'd chat with the prolific Mr. Waid about world building with Max Brooks, his "Man of Steel" reaction, and the moral obligation of the writer when creating a hero.

Like a Sarlacc’s groping tentacle seeking to pull all things within reach into it’s gaping maw, San Diego Comic-Con has begun to devour the weekdays surrounding its official Thursday kick-off. So it went with the “Star Wars” Course of the Force party at Hard Rock Hotel’s rooftop Float bar last night.

VoltronRobotechLogo

It was inevitable, if you think about it: someone, at some point, must have gotten it into their heads that the grand space opera of "Robotech" and the monster-smashing action of "Voltron" would somehow fit together. Ignore the tangle of licenses, rights, deals, and territorial arrangements: what would happen when you took a mystical giant robot made of lions and pitted him against the Valkyrie pilots of the SDF-1?

That's for writer Tommy Yune to figure out when he provides the story for Dynamite's "Robotech/Voltron" crossover in November and announced yesterday by the comics publisher in the lead-up to Comic-Con 2013. Yune, the Creative Director at "Robotech" studio Harmony Gold, is holding details about precisely how these two universes will collide close, but he's got some thoughts on why this matchup works beyond giant robots smashing each other.

godzilla-575

I encountered Godzilla at San Diego Comic-Con, and lived to tell the tale. And, in the coming days (well, as long as you’re in SD), you can too, thanks to Legendary PicturesGodzilla Encounter.

There’s a couple of crucial steps to meeting the King of All Monsters face to face (literally – we’ll get to that in a second), but because I’m a swanky dude, Legendary was nice enough to invite me and a few other members of the press to their installation located somewhere in the San Diego area.

Spoiler: it’s pretty close to the Convention Center, and looks like it was swiped by Godzilla, but WHO KNOWS WHERE IT IS???

In any case, after being picked up in black cars outfitted with atomic monster fighting shields, we were whisked over to the installation area. On the way, the car played a disturbing medley of siren noises, and warnings that an atomic monster had been sighted in the area. Then we parked, and were quickly ushered into the warehouse by agitated “police” warning us that the monster was near. Read More...

Fiend Banner

Zombies have devoured all areas of pop culture in the last few years that toothless retreads make the genre feel like it’s decaying pretty fast. But a clever concept -- such as with Peter Stenson’s new shockingly personal crystal meth-meets-zombies book “Fiend” -- has the power to refresh the old corpse and get it back to its best shambling form.

top-10-questions-not-to-ask-at-comic-con

Panels at San Diego Comic-Con give fans the chance to speak to their favorites from some of the biggest and best entertainment has to offer. If you’re one of the people brave enough to grab the mic and ask a question, please don’t make it cliché. Other than asking if you can have a hug, there are a number of other dated questions some of the panelists have heard way too many times. Don’t be the guy who makes their favorite celeb cringe because you asked them something they’ve heard and answered before – probably at the last panel they were on that day.

Here are some classic no-no's if you're planning on asking questions at Comic-Con!
