Low tech, meet high tech. At Toy Fair 2012, integrating iPhones and iPads into analog play settings was a hot trend, but puzzle manufacturer Ravensburger took the concept in an exciting new direction. Through use of the iOS device's camera and a free augmented reality app, pointing your tablet at a completed jigsaw puzzle image can unlock games, sightseeing tours, and more. When was the last time someone rewarded you for completing a puzzle?

Toy Fair 2012: Hasbro Reveals G.I. Joe Retaliation Toys

This June, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" blasts its way into theaters as the battle between the Joes and Cobra continues in what is sure to be (according to what we've seen thus far in the trailers) a ninja-filled extravaganza! Although we previously showed you the first wave of Retaliation-based figures, during Toy Fair 2012 we were treated to reveals all the way through wave 5! We were lucky enough to interview Daryl DePriest  (in the video above) about the upcoming Joe line to find out what fans can expect to be seeing on the shelves from Hasbro.

Yes, that's Ray Stevenson, who plays Firefly in the upcoming film. Read on for info and even more photos of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation toy reveals!

Square Enix' booth during Toy Fair 2012 was sparse, but featured some of the coolest action figures around. Their Play Arts Kai lineup has become deeper with each new license and their display proved that point with new figures from God of War, Uncharted, and even debuted prototypes of new figures from Mass Effect 3! That's right, Shepard is there in all his heroic glory-- although a little gray. These are just the prototypes, so only some gray has been added to better bring out the detailing of the sculpts, but are all also still pending licensor approval. Luckily, thanks to Square Enix' incredible sculpting, they probably won't have much trouble getting these pushed through.

Back in January, Mayfair Games announced that Catan: Junior will be hitting North America, but there were few details on how the game would change from its original Kosmos-published German edition, Die Siedler von Catan Junior. At Toy Fair 2012, I caught up with Mayfair's Director of Sales & Marketing, Bob Carty, to see an early prototype of this new Catan Junior edition.

The changes in this new version run the gamut of gameplay to theme. For one, all of the cards have been replaced with tiles (the sheets of symbols you see on the table are un-punched tile art), which makes more sense since this junior version of Catan doesn't involve stealing resources. The American version of Catan: Junior also incorporates a trade market which you can see has been built right into the game's board.

Thematically, the resources have received a bit of tweaking. Most notably, kids won't be collecting rum anymore, as those barrels have been renamed as molasses. Jack Sparrow might be disappointed, but I'm willing to bet at least a few parents will appreciate Mayfair's change.

This week is New York Toy Fair week and as expected, there are plenty of new Star Wars items coming out! I stopped by and chatted with the folks at Screenlife, the makers of Scene It, the best-selling entertainment trivia game. They told me that Star Wars Scene It has been the number one most requested game since their inception ten years ago. And now here we are, Phantom Menace 3D just released, and the force is now even stronger with Screenlife as they are able to bring us mega-fans and newbies alike the Star Wars Scene It game! It officially comes out late summer/fall but I saw a demo at Toy Fair yesterday and it's super awesome.

Every year, there are a few things on our radar that build our anticipation for Toy Fair. One of those things is always the new Masters of the Universe Classics reveals during Mattel's Collector Press event! While this year might have not caused our jaws to drop to the floor, the coolness of new figures can't be denied. A lot of these figures have been previously shown during the many, many conventions of 2011, but there were a few all-new showings during Toy Fair 2012 including the 30th Anniversary creation of DC Comic's Geoff Johns: Sir Laserlot! Yes, you read that correctly.

Read on for photos of all the figures at the display along with their currently projected release dates straight from the Matty Collector website!

Back in 1962, artist Wallace Wood reported humanity's downfall at the hands of our Martian overlord through Topps trading card series, effectively titled: Mars Attacks. While we were obviously able to take the fight back to those green-suited bastards and send them packing back to the red planet, now Mezco Toyz is helping to once again spearhead their invasion of our world! Strangely enough, we found this out during Toy Fair 2012 rather than a major news network. Way to report the facts, "journalists"!

Join us as we take a look at not one, but 3 different scales our conquerors will be arriving in!

Way back in that magic year of 1989, we sat in a theater in awe of Marty McFly's latest adventure in "Back to the Future II". However, it was the hover board he used to outwit Griff Tannen that really sparked our interest-- and our jealousy. Turns out, as we discovered during Toy Fair 2012, it only took 23 for Mattel to make good on their fiction promise of floating awesomeness! Sure, this hover board is only a prop replica, but thanks to built in sound effects and sliders (like the kind used to move heavy furniture) we can have something as close to BttF II as currently possible. Now if we only had a Delorean...

Going into Toy Fair 2012, we fully expected a ton of new zombie-related merchandise. With the currently pop culture popularity off those brain-eating corpses, there's just no stopping their undead merchandising machine! however, JAKKS Pacific managed to turn our heads thanks to a new line of toys that have a special nostalgic quality to us 80's babies. The S.L.U.G. (Scary Little Ugly Guys) Zombies are an homage of sorts to the classic M.U.S.C.L.E. line of tiny, single-colored wrestlers. The S.L.U.G.s are a little larger than their distant cousins, but have that same appeal thanks to some tremendous (and hilarious) sculpts.

If what we saw at Toy Fair is any indication, Mattel's juggernaut Monster High line shows no signs of slowing down.
