Today at MTV Geek!, we’re going to drop a bombshell worthy of a multiverse-style headline: Dark Horse Comics is making statues of Marvel Comics characters! Yes, you read that right. Indeed, our world has become a topsy-turvy pile of insanity! How did this happen? What the hell are we trying to pull with these lies?! We’ll let the folks over at Dark Horse explain:

If you like G.I. Joe reviews, then you’re in luck because we’ve been buying the hell outta them lately. Hasbro has been really bringing their A-team A-game to the table, and today we’re taking a closer look at the Pursuit of Cobra Shadow Tracker figure! Shadow Tracker is like a devilishly inbred mixture of the Predator and Ice-T from Surviving the Game. If you’re not a fan of either of those films, then perhaps some of this guy’s sheer apocalyptic-level badassery will be lost on you. Either way, let’s get into the review!

Shadow Tracker works for Cobra as a wilderness hunter and guide. Scorning conventional firearms, he uses traditional weapons from around the world. He tracks his prey using primal instinct: he hears the dark whispers of the jungle, senses distant footfalls in the earth, and tastes his victim’s fear in the wind. When Skydive lands in the jungle, Shadow Tracker instantly knows – and starts the hunt.

Welcome to MTV Geek’s continuing reviews of action figures from Mattel’s Green Lantern Classics Series 2! Today we’re looking a toy that can be turned into one of two characters, simply by switching out the extra included head: Green Lanterns Medphyll and Naut Kei Loi! As usual with these types of figures, you can find both versions individually packaged, and both come equipped with the head of the other. Of course, that also means if you want to display both characters, then you have to purchase 2 figures so those extra heads shall be prevalent in your accessories bin. Thanks to the Green Lantern Classics Line and the upcoming DC Universe Classics wave featuring the deputy Lanterns, our Corps shelves are starting to sag like Kyb’s… ummm… well, go take a look at Kryb for yourself. Let’s kick things off with the bio from the back of the package:

Two of the most unusual heroes in the Green Lantern Corps are the fishlike Naut Kei Loi and the plantlike Medphyll. A native of the ocean-planet Aeros, Naut Kei Loi wears a helmet filled with his home-waters even as he travels the stars. Medphyll hails from planet J586, a world of sentient plants. Both distinguished themselves during the Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Being one of my favorite films of all time, anything related to District 9 is going to catch my eye and this LEGO ARC gun, modeled after the one so elegantly handled in the film, is no exception. The amount of detail and precision this ARC replica carries just made LEGOs even cooler -- something none of us thought was possible.

Created by a fellow known as Legohaulic on Flickr, I really couldn’t even tell it was made of LEGO bricks at first glance, and judging by the comments on his Flickr post it’s safe to say a lot of folks got the same surprise when they stumbled upon on it. The detail is incredible and honestly, aside from the gaps caused by how LEGOs fit together, this ARC gun looks exactly like the one we remember from the movie.

This Prawn weapon replica isn’t the only thing Legohaulic has been up to. He’s got tons of other creations on his Flickr page including that classic “I am Darth Vader from the planet Vulcan” scene many of you will remember from a little movie called Back to the Future. He has even created the Portal 2 duo out of plastic bricks, and done a remarkable job! Read More...

The newest series of Mattel’s DC Retro Action Heroes has hit our doorstep, and today we’re going to take a closer look at them. As usual, there are four figures in this lineup, and this time in consists of: Shazam (Captain Marvel), Black Adam, Martian Manhunter, and Darkseid! These Mego-style figures have started to grow on us, and this wave is proving to be no exception. Martian Manhunter is wearing full green footie-pajamas – what’s not to love?! Currently Toys R’ Us and various internet toy outlets are the only real option for getting these guys; but, as we keep seeing more and more Sinestros and Lex Luthors piling up on TRU’s pegs, we have to wonder how long it will be before the upcoming waves become Matty Collector exclusives. after checking out the coming photos and general rambling, we have a feeling these four might not set on shelves quite as long...

It has begun! That’s right, Mattel has revealed their San Diego Comic Con exclusives and the flood of saliva coming from fans’ mouths will surely drown us all! Most of their lines are represented, with figures from Green Lantern Movie Masters, DC Universe Classics, Masters of the Universe Classics, Young Justice, and the big shocker – Voltron! Yes, the classic lion-based version is coming to SDCC in the form of a super articulated 6” figure that has two swords and some incredible packaging. That’s only the tip of the iceberg though, as Swamp Thing returned to the DC Universe proper this week and only a few days later is announced as the DC Universe Classics SDCC-exclusive. Now that’s what we call “service”!

Without further ado, let’s take a look at these fine pieces of plastic courtesy of Matty Collector:

Stay Puft is the largest item ever made by Mattel and sold at SDCC, standing at over 20" tall! Well, Hasbro has finally done it! They have unintentionally caused a future loss of profits with their G.I. JOE line-- thanks to making the last Snake Eyes figure you’ll ever need! Why would they do this? What kind of genius decided to give the fans exactly what they wanted?! We don’t know; but while the accountants at Hasbro are kicking the s**t out of him, we’re gonna be singing that poor s.o.b.’s praises. Welcome to our action figure review of Hasbro’s G.I. JOE Pursuit of COBRA (POC) Snake Eyes! This is the third version of our favorite silent assassin to hit the line’s short span, and looking upon it has caused many a toy fan to weep with pure, unadulterated joy.

Here’s the short bio that was posted on the back of the blister card. It survived about twenty seconds before we tore into SE’s package like a rabid mongoose… and by that, yes, we mean “with our teeth”.

Snake Eyes is the G.I. JOE team’s ninja commando and martial arts master. As the team fights COBRA forces in the desert, Snake Eyes slips behind enemy lines to blow up COBRA fortifications. He is armed with a pistol, submachine gun, and swords to battle anyone who tries to stop him from reaching his target.

Today, we here at MTV Geek! are bringing you some exclusive Transformers toy images unlike any we’ve had before! Below is a sneak peek at Hasbro’s upcoming Basic Optimus Prime, Basic Bumblebee, and Ratchet Kre-O sets. Kre-O is Hasbro’s foray into the building toy market and will surely score them some of Lego’s sweet, brick-laden cash and what better way to do that than with the Transformers? They seem to be a natural fit thanks to their transforming qualities, and the finished products in both robot and vehicle modes look pretty damn good if we say so ourselves… and we do!

Over the past few years, Kotobukiya has worked their way through the ranks of collectibles manufacturers to become one of the premiere go-to companies for geek-related statues. One of their most popular lines is the female-centric Bishoujo line. The most prominent women of the Marvel and DC Comics universes have been represented with more on the way all the time! Today, we’re reviewing Kotobukiya’s latest Bishoujo statue-- Ms. Marvel.

This beautiful piece was based off a design by illustrator Shunya Yamashita, who has designed the other statues in the Bishoujo line, and really shows off the line’s overall quality. Read More...

3D content is all the rage these days. 3D TVs are all over store shelves and recent products like the Nintendo 3DS don’t even require users to wear glasses. Now, thanks to Hasbro’s My3D viewer, iPhone and iPod Touch users can experience 3D content by downloading apps designed specifically for use with Hasbro’s new, inexpensive device.

The resemblance My3D bears to the ViewMasters of yester-year is undeniable. I mean, in all actuality it’s pretty much the same idea but, instead of throwing slides in the front you pop in your iPod or iPhone and run an app. Another difference is the ability to play motion sensitive games and view 360-degree virtual worlds. The hits just keep on coming with Gentle Giant Ltd.’s Star Wars and Marvel merchandise. This month, we mean that literally thanks to the info on their upcoming (not so) mini-bust of the Incredible Hulk! These fine collectibles are available for order, through your favorite comic shop, this month but won’t find their way onto your shelves until the Fall. Still, that female Stormtrooper statue is worth the wait!

Also, this month sees the continuation of G.G.'s tribute to the classic Kenner Star Wars line with the release of the Death Squad Commander in full 12 inch size. We love these toys, especially so thanks to the sweet blister card they arrive on.

Here’s all the info straight from our friends at Gentle Giant:

Namco Bandai and Good Smile Company have joined forces to bring the popular Nendoroid toys to the PSP in Japan. There’s no specific release date or pricing available just yet, however, in a recent interview with Famitsu, Good Smile Company CEO Takanori Aki said they plan to include one to three characters from more than 10 different titles!

Nendoroid Generation is the name of the new game that will see the Nendoroids attending none other than Nendo High School. The game will be a single-player RPG in which players assemble a party of characters to do battle. Though details on the actual battle system are still scarce, we do know players can utilize chain combos and group attacks based on which characters are being used. Another interesting tidbit uncovered was a “Dance Mode” supposedly designed with fans of the original toy line in mind. They have also included the ability to interact with Nendoroids, with players able to do things like “pet” them.

Famitsu got a list of some of the characters that will be appearing in Nendoroid Generation which you can see below. Obviously it’s not a list of every character, but it’s a nice look at what’s in store. Read More...
