under-the-dome-screen

CBS has released the first trailer for their 13-week adaptation of the small town sci-fi thriller "Under the Dome." And yep, those are definitely some characters in a small town trapped under a dome, so as far as it goes, writer Brian K. Vaughan is staying true-ish to Stephen King's utterly terrible novel.

Still, the writer behind "Y: The Last Man" has surely figured out more interesting story beats than "teen randomly goes crazy, starts filling a cabinet with women" or "meth-addicted religious fanatic makes friend, has very little bearing on the rest of the plot."

It's one thing to make your home to look like the Starship Enterprise and to always wear a Starfleet uniform under your everyday clothes, but you can't call yourself a hardcore fan until you've made your love permanent. In my world, when you love something that passionately, you get it tattooed! So with "Star Trek Into Darkness" heading into theaters May 17th, we thought we'd take a look at fans who've boldy gone and taken the ultimate step in fandom and will forever wear their "Star Trek" dedication on their sleeve (and other body parts).

But they aren't always pretty...so we hereby present the best (and worst) in "Star Trek" tattoos!

bates motel lost beer 1

Along with Damon Lindelof (and J.J. Abrams in the beginning), Carlton Cuse helped shepherd "Lost" into television history by creating a rich, frustrating mythology loaded with juicy nuggets, red herrings, in-jokes, and subtle clues that viewers thought might unlock the ultimate secrets of that magical island and its lost inhabitants. As it turned out, none of it meant anything because FRIENDSHIP was all that mattered or whatever, but that's not the point.

The point is, Carlton Cuse has moved on from tropical settings and giant smoke monsters, to the Pacific Northwest and small, teenage, future (misunderstood) monsters with his new series "Bates Motel." Now, "Bates" has bupkis to do with "Lost" but it appears that didn't stop Cuse from layering in at least one little easter egg in the show to get Losties foaming at the mouth.

Sam Witwer

Last week was a forceful one for “Star Wars” fans. Not only did we celebrate May The 4th, but “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” received seven Daytime Emmy nominations.

But if it was a good week for us regular fans, you could say it was a particularly Maul-velous one for nominee Sam Witwer. (Actually, that’s a really bad pun, so please don’t say that.)

Witwer, who voiced Darth Maul in the since-canceled Cartoon Network show, was nominated as an outstanding performer in an animated program, along with fellow “Clone Wars” actors Jim Cummings and David Tennant (yes, the same Tennant). “Clone Wars,” which has never previously been nominated, also received recognition for best direction, music direction, sound mixing and “special class animated program.”

The actor (who also appears on Syfy’s supernatural show “Being Human”) joined me via email for a very brief, and very silly, Q&A about being nominated – and about how the nominations may impact the show’s potential future.
