The 2012 Consumer Electronics Show kicks off next week in Las Vegas, Nevada and we couldn't be more excited to get our grubby hands on all the latest tech on the show floor. Just like last year we're no doubt going to be caught off guard by a few surprise announcements, but other than that we have a pretty good idea about what we're going to see. To get things started on our end we're going to fill you in on our hopes and predictions for some of our favorite categories. Read More...

Who knew when Bioware developed Knights of the Old Republic, that we'd still be so deep in this era of Star Wars fiction. While taking place about 300 years prior to the Bioware's MMO, The Old Republic, in many ways the events in KOTOR set the stage for the narrative threads that would follow in the new game. Writer John Jackson Miller is very familiar with the era of Darth Revan and the reemergence of the Sith, having written a long-running comic series for publisher Dark Horse. Now, he's taking us back to that era with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic-War!, whose first issue hits shelves and digital downloads on January 11th. Miller is also a novelist most known for his Star Wars work with Del Rey publishing.

Here's the official blurb from Dark Horse: "The Republic and the Mandalorians are at war! Jedi are joining the fight, despite the noninterference stance of the Council. One Jedi, however, has found himself on the front lines against his wishes-the peace-loving Zayne Carrick has been drafted!"

I spoke to Mr. Miller about working in the KOTOR universe again and continuing to expand Star Wars fiction as well as his work on the recent Mass Effect comics at Dark Horse.

The idea for official LEGO Minecraft products got a huge response when it showed up on LEGO CUUSOO. So much so the developers behind the block-building game showed their support by contacting LEGO directly. Now another video game enthusiast has an idea for LEGO sets – LEGO Legend of Zelda. It’s no secret that Xbox 360 consoles just don't last. In fact, everyone I know that has one has either had to send it off to Microsoft for repair or is on their third or fourth purchase. So what are we to do with these broke ass gaming systems? Some like to sell them for parts on eBay, but Spencer Shepard of Blue World Aquariums had a better idea -- do a backward case mod and turn it into a salt-water home for aquatic life. Read More...

Series 2 of DC Direct's Batman: Arkham City figures will be hitting stores come April 25th. The new series brings a Batman 'detective mode” variant and has the caped crusader facing off against all-new versions of enemies including Hush and Jervis Tetch: the Mad Hatter. Along with those three figures will be new versions of Catwoman and the Riddler that we were introduced to back in October at New York Comic-Con.

All of the five figures (yes, five) will stand between 4.25 and 6.8 inches tall with The Mad Hatter obviously coming in on the short side of the spectrum. Unfortunately, we're still waiting for the Penguin and Titan-juiced Joker figures we saw in October, but we've got some nice big images of the series 2 figures after the break so click through and check them out. Angry Birds has come to life as plush toys, board games, a recipe book and even sandals. Now, through a partnership between Rovio and Lappset Group the pissed-off avian egg-layers and their fat, sloppy, green rivals are going to be taking over schoolyards as playground equipment and ready-made “activity parks” as early as next year. LEGO bricks let us use our imagination to build and design nearly anything in the physical world. Minecraft for PCs lets us use our imagination to build and design nearly anything in a virtual world. Now, Minecraft developer Mojang and the LEGO Group are joining forces to bring us Minecraft-themed LEGO sets!

The project began as a fan-created idea from users "suparMacho" and "koalaexpert" on the LEGO Cuusoo website - a place where LEGO enthusiasts can share their ideas with actual LEGO employees. If a submitted idea gets support from 10,000 different users it will be reviewed by a "LEGO jury" and possibly become an actual product. Read More...

…and then there was the time I got to chat with the Voltron Force. Well, not all of the voice cast of the legendary 80’s series, but a nice chunk of it including Neil Ross (Commander Keith, the Black Lion), BJ Ward (Princess Allura, Blue Lion), and Michael Bell (Lance, the Red Lion, Sven the Blue Lion, Pidge, the Green Lion), who were on hand with Team Unicorn to talk about the gateway drug for many of you into the world of anime near the release of the downloadable game from THQ, Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The game represents a reunion, of sorts, for the trio, bringing back classic scenes from the 1984 series and inserting them as pre- and post-mission cutscenes as they fend off the forces of the villainous King Zarkon.

Between the three of them, these voice actors represent a solid chunk of animation history, handling roles in any and everything from G.I. Joe, to Harvey Birdman, to Darkwing Duck, to Samurai Jack. In our pretty expansive (and lengthy) chat, we covered the legacy of Voltron, the unorthodox manner in which the cast had to handle their dialog, getting banned from working alongside Peter Cullen due to pranksterism, and the changing landcape for VO talent in an increasingly CG animation industry.

What follows is an edited transcript of an interview conducted last week. Enjoy some of the best bits of our conversation after the jump.

Is there anybody more fitting to host Spike's Video Game Awards than the TV icon of Geek Cool: NBC's Chuck? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zachary Levi will host the VGAs this year, which will air live on Spike TV Dec. 10.

As the old saying goes, Levi doesn't just play a "geek" on TV; the star is a major video game fan, with voice actor roles in Fallout: New Vegas and Halo: Reach. He also launched a site called The Nerd Machine where you can buy cool swag and talk about video games like Call of Duty.

The VGAs are shaping up to be a star-studded affair, with the addition of Levi as well as Seth Green, Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Joe Montana, and The Black Keys. You can catch the show on Saturday Dec. 10th at 5 p.m. on Spike TV, MTV2 and Spike.com.

Springfield Punx is at it again with this clever reimagining of the Arkham City characters in the Simpsons animated style. With the Arkham gang so popular at the moment, these drawings almost make us yearn for a nifty cameo in the actual Simpsons series, a la their recent guest star Neil Gaiman!

Let's all say it together: another MMO? With the recent news of the LEGO Universe closure and DC Universe Online being forced into free-to-play desperation, as well as juggernauts such as Guild Wars 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic on the horizon, this may not seem like the best time to launch a new online world.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the Pathfinder RPG, though. It took Paizo only a few years to make huge waves in the pen-and-paper roleplaying world, so if anyone can pull off the leap from analog to digital gaming, it's the guys with momentum. Besides, Pathfinder has one ace up their sleeve, the support of the hardcore RPG fan, so expect it to bring the critical mass required to get a game off the ground.
