The cult RPG "Exalted" has been brought back to life for a Third edition by Onyx Path Publishing, through a Kickstarter project. "Exalted" hit its goal of $60,000 in only 18 minutes and raised $380,000 in one week. I spoke to Richard Thomas, the founder and creative director of Onyx Path, about the resurrection of "Exalted" and the decision to use Kickstarter.

Catch up with Parts 1-3!

By now, you've probably heard the news that ABC has ordered a full season of "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.," the show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and masterminded by Joss Whedon. But what you might not be familiar with, if you're not a hardcore comic reader, is the background of this mysterious S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. We break it down for you, in MTV Geek's History of S.H.I.E.L.D.

In 1986, news broke that United States government officials had been selling arms to Iran, and funneling the profits to the Contras, a group of anti-communist rebels in Nicaragua. The Iran-Contra Scandal (as it would come to be known) was a defining event in the Reagan administration; the investigations and trials that followed dragged on for years, and gave many Americans a less-than-rosy view of their government and its secretive dealings.

Mario

Manga creator Masashi Kishimoto is well known in the English-speaking world as the creator of "Naruto," the ninja-school story that is a best-seller not only in Japan but also in the U.S., where it has dominated the graphic novel charts for years. This week, though, readers get to see a completely different side of Kishimoto with the one-shot story "Mario," which appears in the latest issue of "Shonen Jump"; you can get just this issue for 99 cents if you don't feel like springing for a subscription, and that 40-page story alone makes it a good deal, especially compared to American comics. (You can even get it for free via the Viz Android app if you're willing to download a free game.)

Batman-Year-Zero_

By Matt D. Wilson

"...anything you think you know, you don't know. You know what you should expect? The unexpected. Then you'll be on target." - Greg Capullo

Starting with June 12's "Batman" #21, Batman gets a revised, New 52 origin in writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo's newest arc. But just how much will the 11-issue "Zero Year" change about the iconic moments Batman fans have known for decades?

To find out, I chatted with Snyder and Capullo by phone for a sometimes-rowdy conversation about whether the team approached the story with a pickaxe or a scalpel. And also, why it's called "Zero Year," anyway.

Graduation

It took about an hour to wrap my head around everything that happened in the season finale of "The Vampire Diaries." The ending, people! The ending!

But before we get to the part that left my mouth agape, we have to talk the rest of “Graduation.”

Rebekah finally caught a break, Elena and Katherine had their best battle yet, a Salvatore was chosen, and Klaus...of course we have to mention Klaus’ quick but lasting moment.

Spoilers!

Summer of Valiant 2013 Poster.indd

What is "Unity" in the new Valiant universe? I'd hoped to get some clues to that in my chat with Valiant CCO Dinesh Shamdasani, Executive Editor Warren Simons, Editor Jody LeHeup.

Besides staying mum on the shape of the new "Unity" (Erica Pierce forever), we did talk about how the universe currently looks, as the publisher continues to reintroduce titles from the VH1 era, including a new "Eternal Warrior" series, while playing out storylines like the ongoing "Harbinger Wars" between "Harbingers" and "Bloodshot," and gaining new creative teams like Christos Gage and Joshua Dysart on “Bloodshot and the HARD Corps.” We discussed diversity among the upcoming titles, and while they shared a collection of exclusive covers from artists Rian Hughes, Dave Johnson, and Dave Bullock for a handful of the Summer of Valiant variants making their ways to shelves in the coming months.

Disney movies are as normal to the American childhood experience as potty training and learning to ride a bike. The stories transform our imaginations, the songs are permanently locked in our memories, and the emotions they made us feel are undeniable. That's what I believed until I took my first Women’s Studies class in college. After that, everything changed. Disney suddenly became the cause of Gender stereotypes. But is it? In light of the recent controversy surrounding the new look of "Brave's" Merida, let's take a look.

Still from “Balance of Terror”

By Kevin Brettauer

From September 8, 1966 to May 13, 2005, the once humble, now-colossal "Star Trek" franchise produced six different television programs, with a sum total of 725 episodes, many of which are considered some of the best drama ever created for network television. Such classics as “The City on the Edge of Forever”, “The Best of Both Worlds”, “Tapestry”, “Chain of Command”, “Space Seed”, “The Sacrifice of Angels” and others often make “best episode” lists of many kinds, alongside the most-revered segments of "The Simpsons," "MASH," "The Twilight Zone," "I Love Lucy," "All in the Family," "Lost" and "The Wire." While any top ten list is difficult, choosing ten exemplary hours from 725 episodes is nearly an impossible task.

But Impossible is my middle name (Well, actually, it’s not, but, you know, whatever. It’s not Tiberius either. Let’s get on with this.).

Harley Quinn has changed both her look and general outlook in the current DC Comics' Universe as a member of the Suicide Squad, and the Joker's ex-girlfriend. Speaking of the Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime put Harley through some rather disturbing paces during the "Death of the Family" storyline that will haunt the character for some time; however, in a look to happier (and crazier) times, Sideshow Toys is releasing a classic version of Miss Quinzel, sporting the original costume fans first fell in love with on "Batman: The Animated Series", as part of their DC Comics Premium Format Figure line!
