You know, back when DC Comics printed Justice League #0, a full issue devoted to (part) of the new origin of Shazam, I said that, "This might be the best, most consistently enjoyable story [Geoff] Johns has told since his Superman story... With Gary Frank." I think I wasn't being hyperbolic enough*: Johns and Frank's revamped Shazam story is a classic. It's a huge, exciting, all-ages story that approaches the source material with just the right amount of reverence.

In case you missed the story, which ran as a sporadic back-up in Justice League, lucky you, it's being collected into one trade paperback at the end of the month. Before that, though, we've snagged you an exclusive look at some of Frank's development materials for Shazam. Check 'em out, and be sure to check out Shazam Vol. 1 when it hits shelves on September 25th: Read More...

Today's best thing ever of the day comes to us from Japan. I found these Thor and Loki fanarts on the Japanese section of pixiv, and if you agree to never ask me what I was doing there and just peacefully look at this fanart, we will have absolutely no problems. By the way, these two are gorgeous... and the artwork is nice, too!

thundercats-cartoon-network

When we learned that Cartoon Network wouldn't be renewing the "ThunderCats" reboot for a second season, it came as a shock. The show, which was both highly-anticipated prior to launch and a success in its somewhat odd Friday night timeslot, nonetheless couldn't move toys for parent company Bandai, leading ultimately to its cancellation.

This came as a disappointment to not only fans, but its creators, including Shannon Eric Denton who helped develop the series over a decade at Warner Brothers, and series Art Director Dan Norton. Both were on hand during this year's Power-Con--joined by the original Lion-O himself, Larry Kenney--to talk about what they had planned for the second season of the series. Death, decapitation, mutation, the origins of the ThunderCats and the strange secret of Snarf are all revealed after the jump.

As big as the Hello Kitty franchise is, there’s never been a Hello Kitty comic book . . . until now. VIZ Media came out with the “Hello Kitty: Fashion Music Wonderland” SDCC exclusive comic book over the summer, and the first official Hello Kitty comic release, “Hello Kitty: Here We Go!” comes out in October. A second edition of “Fashion Music Wonderland” comes out in November (the cover will be different, but the content the same), and the volumes “Delicious!” and “Surprise!” will follow.

To get this going, VIZ hired several talented writers and artists and MTV Geek spoke with three of them. Jacob Chabot, whose “Mighty Skullboy Army” is published by Dark Horse and who’s illustrated VIZ Media’s “Voltron Force: Shelter from the Storm” and “Voltron Force: True Colors,” told MTV Geek about working on the franchise, what to expect from it, and if he’s a hero to little girls. Ian McGinty, who works on VIZ’s “Uglydoll” and KaBOOM’s “Adventure Time: Candy Capers,” talked about breaking into comics, writing and drawing for Hello Kitty, and the big surprise of Hello Kitty’s boyfriend. Stephanie Buscema, who’s been working on IDW’s “My Little Pony” and Dynamite’s “Red Sonja,” spoke about being a long-time Hello Kitty fan and her work as a Hello Kitty guest artist.

Lords of Waterdeep

In the last few years, gaming behemoth Wizards of the Coast has expanded its "Dungeons and Dragons" product line with several board games. Last year's "Lords of Waterdeep" drew critical praise and awards for its drafting and questing mechanics. Recently, Wizards released "Scoundrels of Skullport", the first expansion for "Waterdeep." How was the original game created? And how challenging was it to expand upon it? We talked to game designer Rodney Thompson.

Most horror sequels are pretty terrible--which is why it was refreshing that "Insidious: Chapter 2"--rather than retreading the ground laid by the first film, opted to strike out in its own, oddball direction. With that film out in theaters this week, and today being Friday the 13th, we thought we'd take a look back at some great horror sequels from years' past and how they affected the horror movie landscape.
