This just in, folks - an alternate universe version of the 11th Doctor has been stranded in our universe with a non-functional TARDIS, and has decided that the best way to spend his time until his time machine is fixed is... cosplaying himself. There really is no other explanation for it, unless you're going by that good old "there's seven people in the world that look exactly alike for no good reason" thing - and hey, I'm sure that's true sometimes, I know a lovely fellow who looks exactly like Tom Hiddleston, height and all, but come on, guys - after Doomsday, I don't trust any person who looks exactly like the Doctor to be anything but the Doctor. Nope, nope, not at all.

OH the hate speech I received when I ranted about the new Doctor not being a woman or a person of color. The jibes, the angst, the sexist/racist rhetoric of “it doesn’t fit the story” or “shouldn’t talent and narrative come first?”, slammed into my twitter feed like millions of voices who were immediately silenced. Now, who the hell am I to voice an opinion, I’ve never watched an episode of "Doctor Who"--“WHAT??!!!” the nerd world squeals with ambiguity, who the hell ARE you? Valid point - but I haven’t watched because I tried and didn’t like it but because I’m afraid once I go down that path forever would it dominate my destiny. I’m certain I would fall in love with Matt Smith. I’ve written before, "Doctor Who" is like getting into Frank Zappa, it’s a huge rabbit hole I don’t want to fall into BUT the Whoniverse is part of my beat so I keep abreast of it’s goings on and I had my fingers crossed the 12th doctor would be big shake-up. It wasn’t and it bothers me.

On Sunday, the world finally learned the answer to to one of humanity's most burning questions in recent times; just who will be playing the 12th Doctor? While Peter Capaldi was received with mixed reactions, those who were holding out for a female or non-white actor in the role experienced a very particular kind of disappointment. This disappointment quickly turned into annoyance and even anger for some as showrunner Steven Moffat's discouraging comments began to make their way around the Internet. In response to Dame Helen Mirren's cries for a leading Time Lady, Moffat had this to say: "Well, I'd like to see a man play The Queen." He later remarked that women in particular don't want a female lead.

Three of MTV Geek's resident geek girl bloggers sat down for a round-table discussion about the matter and examined the pros and cons of having a female Doctor.

Way, way back, like, a week or two ago at San Diego Comic-Con, our intrepid blogger and Supernatural super-fan Amber was pulled onto the MTV livestream to interview stars Mark Sheppard and Misha Collins. There, she asked Misha the obvious question: would he be the next Doctor, on Doctor Who? The erstwhile angel had no idea there was a campaign in place to get him into the TARDIS back then, but as of today, he was ready to reveal it was all a ruse:

Okay, so he's probably not trading in his Supernatural trenchcoat for a... Well, another trenchcoat. But this was just one of the fun, fantasy castings for the new Doctor put forward on Twitter today. Here's some of YOUR top picks for television's newest Time Lord: Read More...

It’s official: BBC presenter Zoe Ball will announce the identity of "Doctor Who’s" 12th Doctor this Sunday, with the help of showrunner Steven Moffat and incumbent Doctor Matt Smith. And just who will be announced this weekend? Based on Matt Smith’s own casting, it will most likely be somebody we have never heard of. But a few names have been repeatedly rumored by the British press and bookmakers for the role, and while some – including perennial favorite Idris Elba, James Bond supporting actors Rory Kinnear and Ben Winshaw, and even Helen Mirren – have taken themselves out of the running, there’s still a handful who might really be in the running for the part. Here’s a look at the pros and cons of five likely contenders.

There's nothing quite like reliving childhood memories. Ah, the days when I'd sit down in the elementary school cafeteria and pop open my Doctor Who lunchbox, revealing a horde of well-dressed action figures inside instead of any food whatsoever-- I lost a lot of weight that year. Wait. None of that ever happened; but, thanks to Entertainment Earth and Bif Bang Pow! I can retcon my own history as much as I want thanks to their latest 2013 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive: The 1st and 11th Doctor Action Figure Set!

John Barrowman is best known for playing Captain Jack Harkness: immortal leader of Torchwood, former Time Agent and companion to Time Lord Doctor Who. However time was limited for the actor, who was running between autograph signings, a panel, more signings and photo ops at Wizard World’s Philadelphia Comic Con this past weekend. But Barrowman invited me to be his own companion on a run between duties at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, and made the time to chat about Saturday’s news that Matt Smith would depart “Doctor Who” at the end of this year.

Barrowman -- who has further increased his nerd cred with his villainous turn on The CW’s “Arrow” – found out about the news while on a flight to Philadelphia. But the actor joked that he didn’t break down in tears over the news.
