It may have been a somewhat mild winter so far, but that doesn't mean we don't need a good hat to keep our ears warm. Sadly, the same old beanie just doesn't cut it for me anymore. Earlier this year at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot's film Indie Game: The Movie premiered to enthusiastic audiences, and was quickly snapped up by HBO who plans to turn it into a scripted show about indie game development. It's a somewhat odd turn for the project which started as a Kickstarter and went all the way to Sundance, and after seeing it there is no denying that there are plenty of unique and interesting stories that can be told in the indie games space. It's just that most of them are real and not scripted.
The film follow two indie game project, Super Meat Boy and Fez, as they struggle through video game development, which is made up of breakdowns, successes, and frustrations. Throughout their stories, interviews with Jonathan Braid of Blow are woven to punctuate what can happen after you have a successful title released, which isn't what you would expect. Blow himself talks about being depressed for months after Braid came out because many people simply didn't understand what he was going for. Read more...

Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies have featured one of the coolest Batmobiles we’ve ever seen. The Tumbler (as its known in the films) was basically a tank that could plow through or drive over just about any obstacle. LEGO had a Tumbler construction set available for awhile, but it has become very rare (and expensive). Thankfully, there’s a new LEGO Tumbler available for Batfans. Read more...

With all the licensing deals LEGO has nabbed over the years – Star Wars, Indiana Jones, DC Comics, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean... should I keep going? -- we find it very surprising that no Lord of the Rings LEGO sets have seen the light of day, until now.
That's right builders, nearly 11 years after Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy was first introduced to the masses LEGO has finally earned exclusive rights to begin production of build-and-play construction sets based on the franchise. And, with The Hobbit films growing ever closer they decided it would be a good idea to grab those rights too. Read more...
