legend of zelda

By Josh Wigler

Why there is not yet an amazing "Legend of Zelda" movie in theaters by now is beyond explanation. Heck, strike the word "amazing." Just any live-action "Zelda" movie, even if it's "Super Mario Bros." quality. (Bob Hoskins as Ganon, anyone? No one? Yeah, maybe not.)

A very resourceful Deviant Artist by the name of MyBurningEyes designed a digital 3D image of this awesome old school NES fashioned into a toaster. Pretty great, eh?

This kinda sorta needs to be real and on sale ASAP, am I right?

Link has been one of video games' greatest heroes ever since he first picked up a shield in defense of the enchanting Zelda all those years ago on the original NES. Surprisingly, the pointy-eared savior of Hyrule has had very few figures (and even fewer good ones) featuring his likeness and oh-so-badass weaponry. Well, all that's about to change thanks to Max Factory and their incredibly popular line of Figma action figures! Like most incredible toys in the Figma/S.H. Figuarts/Revoltech vein, Link will clock in at around 5 1/2" tall, but will be sporting articulation and accessories (including extra faces) that would put most larger figures to shame. Read More...

It's not often we a see a Nintendo / Transformers mashup, actually, I don't think I've ever seen a Nintendo and Transformers mashup. Well, not up until now anyway. Yep, what you see above is a classic Nintendo Gameboy made of LEGO that's also a Transformer, but we all know the real question -- Is this guy an Autobot or a Decepticon? Read More...

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Launch

Exactly seven days since a gang of Marios took over Times Square to celebrate the launch of "Super Mario 3D Land," Nintendo's most notable tunic wearing adventurer, Link, was launching his own game, just a few blocks away. The Nintendo World Store at Rockefeller Center was taken over this weekend by Zelda fans as they lined up a day before "Skyward Sword" was officially released to grab an early copy of the game and take part in the festivities, which also helped commemorate the series' 25th Anniversary. Trivia, a scavenger hunt, and a chance to take their picture with the Master Sword awaited anyone that braved the block-long line.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

"The Legend of Zelda" has always been one of Nintendo's most groundbreaking and successful franchises, and this year, it's celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Link's travels have been well documented on every console Nintendo has ever released (save for the Virtual Boy), and while the scope of the games have changed, the core elements of what make a "Zelda" game great, are consistently there. "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" is no different than its numerous predecessors. It has all the vital components of a "Zelda" game, and is the first full release developed entirely for the Wii. Taking advantage of the platform's unique capabilities "Skyward Sword" becomes Link's most immersive, and biggest adventure yet.

With 2011 drawing to a close, the MTV Geek staff took a look back at the many games that the year brought us. From stories fighting franchises rising from the ashes, to blockbuster shooters doing what they're going to do, I can honestly say it's been a year of more pleasant surprises than disappointments. While we didn't see any big-time experimentation or anything out-and-out strange or new this year among the major releases (no beautiful failures like Mirror's Edge or completely insane masterpieces like Bayonetta), the return of quite a few tried and true titles still provided some pretty spectacular peaks in console and PC achievement.

Here's MTV Geek's 2011 picks for Best Video Games.

Super Mario 3D Land In Times Square

First, Mario took over MTV Geek, and then, this past weekend, he ventured outside of 1515 Broadway, into the November cold, and took over Times Square. Setting up shop on Military Island, Nintendo celebrated to launch of "Super Mario 3D Land" with a real-life recreation of the game, tumbling Marios, Tanooki tails, and free mushroom pizza.

It all went down Saturday morning at about 10 AM as the public got their first glimpse of a what "Super Mario 3D" would look like, if, ya know, if it was real world 3D. To kick things off, a group of acrobatic Marios went about conquering the level by doing their best high-flying Mario impressions as they tore down Broadway. Avoiding piranha plants and Bullet Bills (as well as precariously placed press), they flipped off of trampolines, and ultimately, reclaiming the flag from Bowser, and triumphantly raised Mario's to the crowd's cheers.
