Early this morning host Seth McFarlane and the world's favorite actress Emma Stone announced the 2013 Academy Award nominations. There were quite a few shockers - mostly the multiple nods for "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and "Amour" in all major categories as well as the snubbing of Question Tarantino and Kathyrn Bigelow in the best director category and P.T. Anderson's "The Master's" shut out of Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay categories. A pleasant surprise came in the form of the inclusion of one of this site's favorite films of the year on the list of Best Animated Feature Films, "ParaNorman." Admittedly, "Wreck-It Ralph" is the movie to beat, but it's nice to see the Academy honor the charming loveletter to horror that is "Norman."

Twelve-year-old Tucker Albrizzi might be best known for his work on Disney’s "Good Luck Charlie" and Nickelodeon’s "Big Time Rush"but the hilarious redhead hit the big screen this Fall playing the role of the lovable, optimist (and arguably the most fun character in the film) Neil in Sam Fell and Chris Butler’s "ParaNorman". If you’ve seen the film, you know that Neil is much more than just comic relief – he’s also the one person in the film that is endlessly cheerful, upbeat, and not afraid to always be himself. In a film where the characters must learn that being different isn’t necessarily a bad thing, Neil is the absolute epitome of that very sentiment.

With "ParaNorman" now on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy, MTV Geek chatted with the young actor to discuss Neil’s optimism, voice acting, and overcoming bullying. Read More...

Earlier today I brought you my review of Laika's "ParaNorman," which hit DVD and Blu-ray today. Two of the people key to bringing this supernatural animated comedy to the screen are Chris Butler and Sam Fell. Butler, who also wrote the screenplay for "ParaNorman," worked on previous Laika effort "Coraline" as well as Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride." Fell was an animator on Aardman's "Flushed Away" and directed "Tales of Despereaux."

"We'll identify ourselves so you can differentiate," Butler promised at the start of our call. It's not just that the two British filmmakers have similar styles of speaking--they also have similar cadences and, more importantly, nearly identical levels of passion for "ParaNorman," a script that Butler had been working on for years before finally being able to convince Laika to give it the green light.

Like its villainous witch, "ParaNorman" is scary but it also has a warm good heart about it. The latest from Laika, the stop-motion animation studio behind "Coraline" is an original feature about tolerance and understanding that just happens to have ghosts, zombies, a vengeful witch, and some of the most gorgeous stop-motion work I've seen in a while.

The small New England town of Blithe Hollow is all set to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the execution of the notorious witch Agatha, who cursed her accusers and has become a kind of grotesque mascot for the town. Our hero is poor put-upon Norman Babcock (Kodi Smit-McPhee) whose problems include a sister that's perpetually embarrassed by him, a father that doesn't understand him, and the ability to see and talk to ghosts which make him an outcast--laughed at by his classmates and bullied by local tough Alvin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).
