When did it become okay for superheroes to kill people? When did it become okay for them to let people die? If I were to put a rough date on it, I’d say May 3rd, 2002, when the first ‘Spider-Man’ movie was released in theaters. Roughly. But since then, it’s become a glaring, and increasingly wide gap between how superheroes were first depicted in comics, and how they’re depicted on screen. And not to put too fine a point on it, or get all hand-waving-in-the-air-y: this trend is the death of everything superheroes stand for.

Let’s take a little step back for context, because based on discussions with friends who weren’t raised on a bed of comic books, soaking in the four-color adventures of the ‘Man of Steel’, the ‘X-Men’, and more, the idea of a hero killing someone isn’t that strange. Read More...

Batman. It seems like there's been a practically unlimited amount of action figures and toys coming out all the time that feature Mr. Wayne's cowled visage-- and I wouldn't have it any other way! Case in point: the latest high-quality import from Square-Enix' Play Arts Kai line of figures based on Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy! Without even trying, I've managed to amass quite a wide array of Batman figures, and recently it seems my favorites have come from Square Enix. How will this Christian Bale-version of the Dark Knight stack up? Will he randomly have pieces pop off and/or snap in twain, like some of my other Play Arts of years past? Or will he turn out to be my new favorite law-breaking-billionaire-orphan?! Read on to find out! Read More...

Bane has never been able to catch a break (no pun intended) when it comes to his movie appearances. In both "Batman & Robin" and "The Dark Knight Rises", the venom-infused fighting machine has basically been an unintelligible henchman-- far from the cunning strategist, of DC Comics' fame, that figured out how to beat Batman during 'Knightfall' and later led the Secret Six in it's own private mercenary war. Nope, Bane is simply a stooge for someone greater in both of his big screen appearances; but now, thanks to Square-Enix, he's getting a chance to shine as the first villain in their Dark Knight Trilogy Play Arts Kai line of action figures! Will he get a little redemption? are you kidding?! This toy is badass! Read More...

With the recent "Man of Steel" trailer being such a show-stopper, one can only imagine that JGL as Batman for even one frame of that movie will send a mass fan-explosion of ecstasy.

Despite denials by Joseph Gordon-Levitt's reps that he is putting on the cape and cowl for an upcoming "Justice League" movie -- much less next year's "Man of Steel" -- I am a tenacious fangirl and am willing to grasp at any straws flung my way. MTV Splash Page reports this morning that while "Man of Steel" producer Christopher Nolan didn't exactly say "yes" concerning a JGL/Batman cameo in "MOF" -- he didn't quite deny it, either. They quote a recent Movieline interview with Nolan:

"I can't talk about that. You know that," Nolan answered when asked about Gordon-Levitt's rumored involvement, wearing what Movieline called a "Cheshire smile."

Warner Bros., I'm making a personal appeal to you to look beyond the failures of the 2004 movie loosely based on the DC Comics character Catwoman, and get a "Dark Knight Rises" spinoff movie starring Anne Hathaway going stat!

According to MTV Splashpage, the idea of playing the feline mistress of crime "brings her to tears." They quote a recent Access Hollywood interview in which the "Les Miserables" star said: Read More...

Said Gotham's Police Commissioner James Gordon about the mysterious Batcat:

...he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Kitteh.

New York Comic Con 2012 is admittedly sparse so far when it comes to big time toy reveals, but sometimes it's the little things that sneak up on you that mean the most. Case in point: Square Enix. While all of their latest figures were on display, within each glass case stood a few all new protoypes from three of their most successful Play Arts Kai lines, and a new one! New Street Fighter and Halo 4 figures stood in all of their solid-gray newness, while Square Enix' latest license for the Nolanverse Batman films was represented by four new figures, including a very promising Heath Ledger Joker! While 2012 saw the release of only a few DC Superheroes LEGO sets, 2013 looks like it's going to be a busy year-- especially for the heroes of Gotham City. Although we don't have info on all of the sets themselves, we DO have photos of every single Minifigure release for the DC property, including everyone's favorite mush-mouthed Bane as he appeared in "The Dark Knight Rises"! These figures will be released sporadically throughout 2013 in various sets, so be sure to keep an eye out, and read on for all the photos, beginning with the Bat-centric releases-- except Aquaman, who swims his way into the lineup like a Candiru fish into a urethra (look it up).
